Working for logical immigation reform based on a stable population, a recognition of the finite nature of our natural resources and the adverse impact of continued growth on our quality of life, standard of living, national interest, character, language, sovereignty and the rule of law. Catching Wild Pigs

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some
exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab,
the Prof noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing
his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told
him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting
communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his
country's government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a
strange question. He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The
young man said that it was no joke.

"You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and
putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday
to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a
fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When
they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put
up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat
again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a
gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start
to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the
gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost
their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are
caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to
it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves,
so they accept their captivity."

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees
happening in America. The government keeps pushing us toward
Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of
programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income,
tax cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments
not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc....... while we
continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.

One should always remember two truths: There is no such thing as a free
lunch and you can never hire someone who offers to provide a service for you
cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Do you see all of this wonderful government 'help' as a problem
confronting the future of democracy in America? If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, God help you when the gate slams shut!

The only thing I can add to this is a question for you......Which
candidates out there are most anxious to spread around the feed corn,
and what might their motives be? Think about it.

Great Post Ulty. I saw it on Raging Bull

It reminds me of what my dad always taught us, "Never take welfare (something for nothing) because it will ruin you. Work for everything you receive."

I agree with your closing statements. I see the candidates making all these promises, it makes me question their authenticity, both sides. The most surprising rise is that of McCain. I know how the ANTI side feels about him so his rise to the GOP top makes me wonder "whats up"?

I don't know why McCain has gained the upper hand. I know a few votes from my household that won't be going his direction next Tuesday. I have made a lot of input to him and to his Colorado campaign co-chairs, pretty much to no avail. Obviously some of the king makers are getting on board now -- Guiliani and Ahnold. I wonder what McCain promised them to get their endorsements, not that I pay any attention to endorsement one way or another.

I had high hopes that Romney would win Florida's 57 delegates and thereby have more influence on the outcome and the platform. It was not to be. I hope the herd instinct doesn't take over now with everyone stumbling over each other to get on the McCain bandwagon.

It's interesting that his pro-war stance has not hurt him so far. That will be different in the general election. But he does have a following because of his legitimate hero status. America has always rewarded its prominent heroes.

Your father's advice is timeless and it is what made America. I believe that welfare is needed sometimes but applied in too liberal quantity undermines the self-esteem and ambition of those who remain on the dole without any effort to do some form of productive work. Shucks, I washed dishes in a hospital when I was in college and I enjoyed the camaraderie of other college and high school kids who worked the split shift after school and on weekends to earn a little money. The guy who worked full time running the dishwasher was an old Russian. One of the workers was an alcoholic who had formerly taught swimming at Harvard. Then there were all of those luscious student nurses!

Regarding those student nurses, they took an pretense they could to see one of the young doctors or interns. The doctors' solution in those days was, "Okay, so you got a sore throat. Take off your clothes and let's have a look."

Were times really easier back then Ulty? I remember working in a hamburger joint in high school. I remember washing dishes. I remember partying with my co-workers and dreaming about the future. No one expected anything. We worked for everything we received. Drugs were not everywhere. We were just young kids trying to eek out a living. I miss those times. Motown. Disco. Miniskirts, hotpants and go go boots.
What the heck happened to our world?
