The Real Obama Record?? Columbo Wants to Know!

Columbo is still scratching his head Ah . . Sorry to bother you Mr. Obama, Sir Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean Senator Obama, sir. Um . . . know you are busy and important and stuff. I mean running for president is very important and . . . ah . . I hate to bother you. I will only take a minute ok, sir? See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things. Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once! Oh, sorry sir. I didn't mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island? No, I didn't think so. Well, listen, anyways, I can't seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be "locked" or "not available'. I'm sure it's just some oversight or glitch or something, so if you could you tell me where these things are . . . I . . . I . . have them written down here somewhere . Oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I'll just read it to you. Could you help me please find these things, sir?

Oh hey . . listen! I know you are busy! Is this too much for you now? I mean, tell you what. I will come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, you know? I mean, I know you are busy, so I will just let myself out. I will be back tomorrow. And the day after....
I think we need to know more about this man before we even consider voting for the next president of this country.

oMG, Ulty. How disrespectful.

We should ask the same of McCain and his dear friends.

McCains support of deregulation and close ties with Keating (Saving & Loan crisis) and Gramm (current bailout crisis), both being ROOT CAUSE of the Economic Crisis we are facing today.

McCains 13 cars and 20+ houses, no wonder he thinks our economy is stable and we the people are whiners. Especially since his wife is a multi billionaire Anhueser Bush heiress who refuses to make public her tax returns.

How about McCain´s chief of staff and his association as a consultant and former business partner that received millions of dollars in consulting fees from Fannie and Freddie.

Lets not get personal and talk about McCain foresaking his wife who was disabled in a car accident and running after and marrying a blonde rich other woman. Then when she gets hooked on drugs his affair in the 90s with her lookalike.

If you want to get in the gutter, we can go there with you. AND I did not even have to bring in any comments of his incompetent VP selection.

There is nothing disrespectful about it. The voters need to know all the details about Obama and McCain before the election. If Obama doesn't want to disclose these records, maybe that is all the more reason to have suspicions about him. Why not come clean and make all this info available just like the income tax returns they disclose.

The dirt on McCain has been amply disclosed already. He was near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. (Of course, we should keep in mind that gaining entrance to the Boat School is highly competitive to begin with.)
Cindy McCain's tax return is not public business. She and John file separate returns. The number of cars and properties seem to grow with each exaggeration but in any event there was a pre-nuptial agreement and most of the cars and property belong to Cindy or others not John. Isn't there a parallel here with John Kerry and his wife. I have seen nothing to indicate Cindy is a multi-billionaire. She is just a run of the mill millionaire like many, many others in this country.

All of the things you mention about McCain are in the public domain. Why aren't Obama's records available on the same basis? What is he hiding? Why are the reporters from the liberal press all over him about these records?

Finally, it has been printed that Cindy's father was a shady character. So what else do you need to know about McCain personally along the lines of the info Columbo solicited from Obama? The Keating scandal taught John a lesson and he has been interested in campaign finance reform ever since. The worst thing about running for public office is the necessity of raising beau coup money and the expectation of the big donors for a quid pro quo. Don't think that the hundreds of millions of dollars Obama raised haven't come without strings. Never happens!

I think deregulation, whatever its merits otherwise, is a chink in the armor of the Republicans. I personally do not favor allowing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to operate without oversight and strict rules about how they are to operate and what kind of loans they can guarantee -- i.e. the criteria a buyer must meet and the kind of mortgage they are eligible for. Similarly, I am not much in favor of the free trade agreements if they do not reduce our balance of trade deficit.

At any rate, it is now clear that whoever is elected should make putting our fiscal house in order as the first order of business. Cut spending, increase taxes until the budget is balanced and some progress is made on bringing the national debt under some semblance of control. This is not the time for any new spending.

Deregulation would not have been possible without the support of many Democrats.

At the center of this crisis are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Although they didn't intend to encourage this spiraling chain reaction, it was leading Democrats in Congress -- Senate banking chairman Chris Dodd and his long-time counterpart in the House, Barney Frank -- who supported legislation that ultimately led to more and more of these bad loans we are all stuck with. This is a fact.
